This is mine.

I know it doesn’t make sense to you, but it does to me. But that’s how personal truth is for most of us.
It’s personal.
It cannot simply be explained to another. It is complex, dynamic, and full of deep value. Our value.

Sometimes it’s so complex and deep that we can’t even explain it to ourselves. Not in words, anyway.

That’s where images, art, and non-verbal communication comes in handy. I use a fun online tool to work with my clients in transition. Working with the images pulls out some really cool insights!

This collage I did for myself. I get lost sometimes, just like you. And I need a point I can return to and check in. Am I doing what’s important to me? Am I following my truth?

I was inspired to post this by the passing of Steve Jobs, founder of Apple, who said:

“Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life. Don’t be trapped by dogma—which is living with the results of other people’s thinking. Don’t let the noise of others’ opinions drown out your own inner voice.”

In honor of Jobs’ commitment to his inner voice, I am offering online sessions using the image tool.

It had to happen. It was inevitable. Change.

But you know what?! You don’t have to do it alone. In fact, there’s a new group in Munich, Germany (its bi-lingual, English/German) that has been started to give women in transition a place to connect, share, and grow – together!

Two other amazing founders and I, got together and decided that what was missing in our corner of the world was an organization that did not just focus on networking business or social  - but did both. And NOT in a serious, programmed, predictable way. Been there – done that.

So, this is what we came up with: Evolve!

It’s our answer to becoming fully what we are meant to be – what we think being 100% human can be. We intend to offer a place to learn, share, and refuel with new ideas, insights.

A kind of Pit-Stop for the Whole Being.

Right now we just meet in Munich, but we’d love to help others who want to do something similar in their area get set up. We don’t charge meeting fees. We just bring in great speakers and ask for donations.

Luckliy, the beauty of evolution is that its organic. If you give it space, time, love and attention, it will grow into what it needs to be. So, for now, we don’t charge fees, but we might in the future. And for now, we are just for women, but that could change.

Its all about co-creation. And the journey together.

I am so excited to post that there is a brand new spin on the tool, VisualsSpeak, Exploring New Options. I have been working with this amazing tool for almost 6 years now. Not only are there new images and sets, but its online! I have trained more than a dozen coaches and facilitators around Europe to use this tool and I am thrilled to see that it is now available in an even more flexible format in the virtual world.

As it is based in the U.S. the tool is still set up in English, but the instructions are simple enough for most levels of ability to manage.

Most people have done this puzzle at some point in their education, at least in North America. The challenge is to connect all 9 dots together using 4 straight lines without lifting your pen (or pencil).

It’s funny, because I ALWAYS forget how to solve this puzzle.

And I like to think I am a creative problem solver!

The trick to following the instructions, is to begin your first line outside of the invisible box created by the dots. The trick to completing the puzzle is to continue drawing your lines outside of the box!

Just imagine what we could create (or solve) if we did the same with our thinking!

What if we decided not to play by the (sometimes invisible) rules, but made our own? I am not talking about the obvious rules we follow to create safety, like stopping at a red light. I am talking about the rules we set up for ourselves.

Those inner boundaries that we set up for ourselves. Think about it.

What could you accomplish if you just thought outside the box?

I know that doesn’t sound right. But I mean it. We really don’t appreciate how important it is to fail.

We are all afraid of failing. Either ourselves or someone else. It means disappointing someone, or looking stupid, or wasting time, energy, money – etc. of the important things in life.

Or – does it?!

I recently asked a client to come up with at least 20 reasons failure was a good thing. I asked her to make a ‘Benefits of Failure’ list.  Here are a few of my favorites:

• failure forces you to be creative
• failure teaches you that you are soley responsibe for your actions and decisions
• it might in retrospect make you glad that you failed at something you were not really good at to begin with
• and might make you find something much better suited for you

In the end, she had the same conclusion that I did. Failure is a good thing because it can force you to think about what it is you really want.

Especially if you stop, and a take a close look at why you failed. Every failure is a chance to learn to do something better. To become better.

So, next time you catch yourself thinking, “Oh, I can’t – what if I fail?!” turn it on it’s head and shout, ‘I can’t WAIT till I fail!’

You might surprise yourself.

Be – Careful

Be – Happy

Be – Patient

Be – Productive

And I wonder, can one just BE?

And what would that look like? Boring? Silent? Blank? Nothing? Everything?

Perhaps the important part would be in the doing nothing and paying attention to what happens around you. We all get so busy this time of year, hurrying up to enjoy the season.

But take a moment for yourself. Sit there and breathe. And just BE.

It’s that time of year – again.

It’s when we take stock. Reorganize. Start making lists. School has started and the kids are out of the house. Days begin to seem more routine and we have time to plan.
